CSS Wins a Bronze Anthem Award for Teens and Screens 2023

Today, the Center for Scholars & Storytellers (CSS) at UCLA is proud to announce that it has been named a Winner in Research within the Education, Art, & Culture category for The 4th Annual Anthem Awards. This is the second year in a row that CSS has been honored with an Anthem Award for our annual Teens and Screens Research Report.

Anthem Winners are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. This year judges consisted of representatives from Pivotal Ventures, TikTok for Good, PepsiCo, Brennan Center for Justice, REI Co-op, Schmidt Futures, NAACP, and more.

“The Winners of this year’s Anthem Awards are truly inspiring and I am honored to help elevate their impact,” said Anthem Awards General Manager, Patricia McLoughlin. “At this moment, there is a lot of uncertainty in our world, but the tireless and extraordinary efforts of the Anthem Awards community provide hope that a better tomorrow is possible. Thank you to everyone doing this work and making an impact.”

“This award represents the collective effort of our hard-working team here at the Center for Scholars & Storytellers,” said CSS Founder and CEO Dr. Yalda T. Uhls, “who work day in and day out to ensure that the content we create for young people accurately reflects their lived experiences and positively uplifts their collective well-being. We look forward to continuing this work of bridging the gap between storytellers, research, and youth.”

The 4th Annual Anthem Awards was the most competitive season yet with more than 2,300 entries submitted from 34 countries worldwide. CSS is proud to have stood out among the crowd, with our 2023 Teens and Screens Report making worldwide headlines, with 800 press stories in 32 countries and an estimated audience of 2.1B people, up 2000% from 2022. Coverage included NPR, USA Today, and EW, and even Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The New York Times. The report was downloaded five times more than in 2022.

We hope this achievement inspires others to make a positive impact at the intersection of media and youth well-being, prioritizing youth voices and the value of data-informed insights in mission-driven work.
